Description
Loose Lorz Italian cloves, already separated from the bulb and ready to plant. This is the same heirloom softneck we grow for our whole-bulb listing, just sold clove by clove instead of by the bulb. A good option if you don't need braid-worthy bulbs and just want seed stock in the ground.
Flavor
Mild, slightly sweet, and clean. Lorz Italian has a gentle garlic flavor that works in any dish without overwhelming anything else on the plate.
Why Cloves Only
These are the same large, plump cloves we hand-select for our own planting stock. We discard the smaller cloves and ship only the best planting cloves. Buying loose cloves means you skip paying for the bulb structure and papery wrapper — a more budget-friendly way to get the same variety in the ground.
Growing
Lorz Italian is a softneck artichoke variety that produces no scape and needs minimal attention. Highly adaptable across climates, reliable in both warm (zones 7 to 9) and cool (zones 3 to 7) regions. Plant October to November, harvest June to July. New to growing garlic? See our complete growing guide for step-by-step planting instructions.
When Your Order Arrives
Store cloves in a dry, open-air location with good airflow as soon as they arrive. Do not leave them sealed in the shipping box.
If you are in a warm-winter region (zones 8 and warmer), refrigerate your seed garlic for 6 to 8 weeks at 35 to 40 degrees F before planting. See our vernalization guide for full instructions.
Package Sizes
Lorz Italian runs about 55 cloves per pound. Approximate counts by size:
- 1/2 lb: ~28 cloves
- 1 lb: ~55 cloves
- 2 lb: ~110 cloves
